POSITION: Bookkeeper - Outreach Office Williamsburg area (Part-Time)

JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides bookkeeping services for Avalon generally 15-20 hours a week, not to exceed 25 hours a week.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:  AS in Business, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited college or university. B.S. preferred.  Strong knowledge and experience working in QuickBooks and in Excel.  A minimum of 5 years accounting experience required.  Two years non-profit accounting preferred.  Organized, flexible, able to work independently and also as a part of a team. SUPERVISOR: Executive Director.
 
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Direct Service:
Code bills, prepare checks for printing 
Input financial data into QuickBooks to include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger for Avalon Center
Provide weekly cash flow projections to the Executive Director
Oversee the preparation of payroll twice a month through Southern Payrolls
Make deposits and post cash receipts in QuickBooks
Assist in the preparation of the agency annual operating budget
Assist in the preparation of program budgets
Generate monthly financial reports
Provide support for audits by way of preparation of documents and answering inquiries
Monitor online bank accounts and conduct bank reconciliations.
Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly financial reports and make grant drawdowns.
Works closely with the Office Manager

POSITION:  Case Manager- Middle Peninsula (Part-Time)

Candidate will assess survivors and work to develop service plans and establish goals.  Candidate will assist survivors eliminate barriers to self-sufficiency, housing and family stabilization.                                             
Duties include but are not limited to: 

-  Collaboration with counselor, legal advocate and SART Coordinator to facilitate wrap-around services.
-  Provision of ongoing case management as required by program guidelines. 
  (Provide survivors with information, referrals, community/housing      
   linkages and other resources).
- Cultivate relationships with area agencies such as DSS, Police and other community services entities
-  Delivery of services in a sensitive and trauma-informed manner.
-  Conduct educational /awareness presentations
-  Provide HA on-call services
-  Courteous, precise communication with clients and the public.
-  Maintain appropriate documentation.
-  Analyze data and generate reports as required by program guidelines.
-  Adherence to Avalon’s client data input/information confidentiality policy 
-  Interpersonal excellence, professional behavior and appearance.

Requirements
-  Bachelor’s Degree in social work or related field required. 2 years of experience with crisis intervention, and DV/SV population preferred.
-  Ability to maintain professional boundaries 
-  Provide crisis intervention as needed
-  Strong organizational, computer, oral, written and communication skills.
- Successful completion of pre-employment/annual criminal history
   background review.
-  Valid Virginia driver’s license.

Hiring range:  $18,000/ year – Part time (20 hours)

POSITION: Shelter Coordinator - Middle Peninsula

Provides trauma-informed support for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, including stalking and human trafficking victims.  Provides resource and referral to other agency services.  Arranges safe transportation of survivors to a secure shelter location and provides assistance locating temporary or permanent housing. Provides on-call support for the helpline on a rotating basis.  Works closely with Williamsburg shelter staff and attends weekly case management meetings.  Reports directly to the Director of Residential Services. 

Duties include but are not limited to: 
-  Answering phone calls, internet and walk-in inquiries for emergency shelter on the Middle Peninsula, referring survivors to appropriate agency and community resources.  
- Supervises PRN advocates and volunteers at the Middle Peninsula office.
- Providing on-call support for the helpline on a rotating basis.
- Transporting or arranging the transport of clients to Avalon’s Williamsburg campus or to a safe location on the Middle Peninsula.  
-  Develops and maintains relationships with hotel/motels and taxi services on the Middle Peninsula
- Develops and maintains relationships with local police and sheriff departments.
- Attends collaborative community meetings on behalf of Avalon
-  Weekly transport and delivery of agency mail, supplies
-  Maintains trip/transportation records.
-  Maintain repair/maintenance records and documentation as required.
-  Adherence to Avalon’s confidentiality policy.

Requirements
-  Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with experience working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence.  Training in victim advocacy, trauma informed care and voluntary services preferred.
-  Excellent oral and written communications skills
-  Experience in a leadership role preferred
-  Physical ability to lift and carry 25 lbs and to climb stairs 
-  Successful completion of pre-employment/annual criminal history
    and driving background review.
-  Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Internet and Social Media
-  Flexibility, patience and willingness to learn
-  Ability to work well with diverse populations 
-  Possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.

Hiring range:  $38,000 - $42,000  Full time

POSITION: Youth Counselor Full Time  - Middle Peninsula

Candidate, under supervision of the Director of Youth Services, is responsible for direct, trauma informed services to minor (17 years and younger) survivors of crime. Candidate will provide crisis intervention, individual and group counseling to children and youth, healthy relationship presentations and development/facilitation of youth trauma summer camp.
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions and healthy relationship education
  • Coordination of mental health services on behalf of child/youth survivors with parents/guardians and community partners to include schools, court system personnel and therapists
  • Detailed case records and progress reports completed in accordance with program guidance. Monthly reports to supervisory staff
  • The ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and decision making
  • Oversight of volunteers and summer camp activities
  • Monitor supervised visitation/exchange between for non-custodial parents
  • Adherence to Avalon’s client confidentiality policy

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in social work or counseling
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with victims of crime
  • Experience with survivors of sexual and family violence strongly preferred
  • Ability to relate to children and families of varied ethnic/cultural, economic and educational backgrounds with dignity and respect
  • Schedule flexibility to include up to 3 evenings per week and 2 Saturdays a month
  • Strong organizational, networking, and communication skills
  • Reliable transportation. Ability to travel throughout Avalon’s service area
  • Successfully completion of pre-employment/annual criminal history background review
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, reliable transportation

POSITION: Weekend (Part Time) Advocate - Middle Peninsula

Candidate will assist survivors with the provision of emergency shelter, hospital accompaniment, transportation and support services, as needed on the Middle Peninsula.  

 Duties include but are not limited to: 
-  Crisis intervention and interaction with residents.
-  Advocacy on behalf of residents.
-  Screening/intake of residents.
-  Answer on-call crisis needs for residents of the Middle Peninsula 
-  Provide hospital accompaniment on the weekends.
-  Provide resource and referral, arrange emergency shelter and transportation for residents of the Middle Peninsula
-  Courteous, precise communication with residents and the public.
-  Demonstrate ongoing commitment to safety and to the healing of 
   survivors. 
-  Interpersonal excellence, professional behavior and appearance.
-  Adherence to Avalon’s client data input/information confidentiality
   policy.

Reports directly to the Middle Peninsula Shelter Coordinator

Requirements
-  High school diploma or equivalent.  Degree in human services, psychology or social work preferred and/or experience with crisis intervention.
-  Basic computer skills.
-  Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
-  Ability to communicate accurately under emotionally stressful
   conditions.
-  Flexible availability: Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays
-  Successfully completion of pre-employment/annual criminal history
   background review.
-  Completion of comprehensive training in hospital accompaniment and victim advocacy
-  Valid driver’s license.

Shelter Advocate - As Needed, Part Time

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated individual to provide supportive services to adult residents and their children in our communal-living emergency shelter. Applicants must be able to clearly communicate using verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate shelter expectations and complete required reporting documentation. They must possess crisis intervention skills and the ability to manage and resolve conflict, and should have a knowledge of the effects of domestic violence and sexual assault, and homelessness, especially on women and children. A minimum of a high school education is required, with a degree in human services, psychology, or social work preferred.
