Youth Counselor (FT) LOCATION: Middle Peninsula

Major Responsibilities Candidate, under supervision of the Director of Youth Services, is responsible for direct, trauma informed services to minor (17 years and younger) survivors of crime. Candidate will provide crisis intervention, individual and group counseling to children and youth, healthy relationship presentations and development/facilitation of youth trauma summer camp. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions and healthy relationship education
  • Coordination of mental health services on behalf of child/youth survivors with parents/guardians and community partners to include schools, court system personnel and therapists
  • Detailed case records and progress reports completed in accordance with program guidance. Monthly reports to supervisory staff
  • The ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and decision making
  • Oversight of volunteers and summer camp activities
  • Monitor supervised visitation/exchange between for non-custodial parents
  • Adherence to Avalon’s client confidentiality policy. Job Requirements Knowledge Skills & Abilities Applicants require
  • Master’s Degree in social work or counseling
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with victims of crime
  • Experience with survivors of sexual and family violence strongly preferred
  • Ability to relate to children and families of varied ethnic/cultural, economic and educational backgrounds with dignity and respect
  • Schedule flexibility to include up to 3 evenings per week and 2 Saturdays a month
  • Strong organizational, networking, and communication skills
  • Reliable transportation. Ability to travel throughout Avalon’s service area
  • Successfully completion of pre-employment/annual criminal history background review
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, reliable transportation

Major Responsibilities Candidate, under supervision of the Director of Youth Services, is responsible for direct, trauma informed services to minor (18 years and younger) survivors of crime. Candidate will provide information and referral, supportive services, education and crisis intervention. Candidate will supervise visitation and custody exchange, provide educational presentations to individuals and groups and act as a liaison between youth and community/local agencies and schools. 
 
Primary duties include but are not limited to: 
  • Case management, advocacy and support for minor victims who witnesses or experienced crime.
  • Supervised visitation between children and parent/guardian.
  • Facilitate exchange of custody between parents for court ordered visitation.
  • Educational presentations for the purpose of identifying victims age 18 and younger.
  • Crisis intervention and counseling.
  • Coordination of services with partners agencies including schools, counselors, parents/guardians and court system personnel.
  • Completion of documentation / monthly reports to supervisory staff.
  • The ability to exercise considerable independent judgement and decision making.
  • Oversight of volunteers and summer camp activities.
  • Adherence to Avalon’s client confidentiality policy.
Knowledge, skills & abilities applicants require:
-  Bachelor’s Degree in social work, counseling, education or related field required.  
   Minimum 2 years experience providing services to youth. Experience with survivors of sexual and family violence preferred.
- Ability to relate to children and families of varied ethnic/cultural, economic and educational backgrounds with dignity and respect.
-  Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- Schedule flexibility required. Ability to work evening / weekend hours and some holidays. 
-  Strong organizational, networking, and communication skills.
- Reliable transportation/ability to travel to programs within Avalon’s service area.
-  Successfully completion of pre-employment/annual criminal history 
   background review.
-  Possess a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, reliable transportation.

Shelter Advocate - As Needed, Part-time

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated individual to provide supportive services to adult residents and their children in our communal-living emergency shelter. Applicants must be able to clearly communicate using verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate shelter expectations and complete required reporting documentation. They must possess crisis intervention skills and the ability to manage and resolve conflict, and should have a knowledge of the effects of domestic violence and sexual assault, and homelessness, especially on women and children. A minimum of a high school education is required, with a degree in human services, psychology, or social work preferred. Please email a cover letter and resume or any questions here.
