Press Release

The Avalon Center Board of Directors is excited to announce the selection of Juanita Graham, M.ED. as our new Executive Director of Programs and Internal Operations.

Graham has been a champion for Avalon Center’s mission of ending domestic and sexual violence in our local community through prevention, education, emergency shelter services, and ongoing support for survivors. She brings to this role the knowledge and experience needed to ensure that our clients’ and community’s needs are kept at the forefront of all that Avalon does. Her extensive expertise in the areas of counseling and current best practices for working with the survivors of relationship violence will allow Avalon Center to extend its reach and impact, while continuing to make progress towards its mission.

Graham received her Master of Education in Agency Counseling from William & Mary, and she has worked in the nonprofit world and counseling field for over thirty years. In her previous role as Senior Director for Outreach Services at Avalon Center, she successfully oversaw Avalon Center’s counseling program, established and maintained connections with our allied partners, regularly conducted trainings on the societal impact of domestic and sexual violence, and spearheaded our legal advocacy and hospital accompaniment programs. Graham also participated in the National Victim Assistance Academy Leadership Institute, which combines theoretical leadership concepts with daily operational strategies for leaders of victim advocacy organizations.

An active member of the greater Williamsburg area, Graham is an advisory board member for the Let Freedom Ring Foundation and a board member of the Williamsburg Book Festival. She is also the author of Find Your Voice Find Your Healing, a collection of poems designed to challenge the reader to find their own voice.

As the Executive Director of Programs and Internal Operations, Graham will lead Avalon in the areas of delivery of services, strategic programming, staff development, and day- to-day operations. She will share executive leadership with the Executive Director of Development and Communications, who will bring focused expertise to the areas of donor relationships, fundraising strategies, budgeting and finances, and external communications.
