Youth Advocate (Part-time)
JOB TITLE: Youth Advocate: PT (20hrs weekly)
REPORTS TO: Director of Youth Services
POSITION SUMMARY: The Advocate provides direct trauma-informed crisis intervention and stabilization services for youth and children who are primary or secondary survivors of domestic or sexual violence, stalking, dating violence, bullying or trafficking. The Advocate provides information & referral and additional supportive services. Participates in educational presentations, classes, groups, awareness events and activities.
SERVICE AREA: Greater Williamsburg and Middle Peninsula communities
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enjoys working with groups of children and youth.
- Organizes and facilitates therapeutic and educational activities for children and youth.
- Assists in material & curriculum preparation for groups, classes, presentations and awareness events.
- Conduct educational /awareness presentations.
- Prepares and create content for Youth Services social media platforms.
- Participates in hospital accompaniment program.
- Resource research and compilation.
- Provides information and referrals for additional agency services
- Advocate for and assist victims in making contact with partner agencies.
- Provides emotional support, safety planning and basic needs.
- Completes program data entry and reports.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Youth Services.
- Adherence to a strict confidentiality policy.
- Actively contribute to a positive team environment to ensure collaboration required for high quality services to victims and effective working relationships.
PREPARATION
- Associates Degree in a related field, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience work experience in crisis intervention and/or youth-centered program preferred.
- Extensive advocacy training will be provided. DV/SV knowledge preferred.
- Enjoy working independently and as part of a team.
- Strong computer skills, knowledge of Zoom and internet platforms.
- Strong organizational and networking skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Enjoys public speaking.
- The ability to exercise considerable independent judgement and decision making.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- Successful completion of pre-employment/annual criminal history review.
- Variable schedule; occasional weekend hours may be required.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license, acceptable driving record and proof of insurance.
